LIVE UPDATE: Winter Weather Advisory issued; freezing rain expected today through Thursday

DAYTON — A system could bring an icy mess to the Miami Valley.

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for the entire region Wednesday through Thursday.

It starts at 5 p.m. today for Butler, Clinton, Greene, Preble Montgomery, and Warren counties until 2 a.m. Thursday. It also includes Union and Wayne counties in Indiana.

The advisory goes into effect for Auglaize, Clark, Champaign, Darke, Mercer, Miami, and Shelby counties beginning at 7 p.m. tonight until 5 a.m. Thursday.

Storm Center 7 Meteorologist Ryan Marando continues to TRACK this system. He has the latest the TIMING and IMPACTS today on News Center 7 Daybreak starting at 4:25 a.m.

Temperatures struggle to warm much past the freezing mark on Wednesday.

As precipitation rolls in Wednesday afternoon/evening, temperatures cool back to below-freezing.

TIMING:

Periods of light freezing rain are possible between roughly 4 p.m. and midnight.

After midnight, temperatures rise above freezing for the remainder of the system

IMPACTS:

All of the Miami Valley runs the risk of accumulating ice.

North of I-70, totals will range from .1 to .2 inches. Isolated areas may achieve .25″. South of 70, totals will be slightly lighter, but any amount of ice can create slick roads, walkways, etc.

Power outage potential still isn’t overwhelming, but could happen anywhere totals reach .25
