At a news conference, Chief Jeffrey Norman said charges have not been filed against the persons of interest, who were identified only as adults.

“We’re still trying to determine what their involvement was, if any, with this homicide,” he said.

Authorities found five men and woman dead Sunday at a home on the 2500 block of North 21st Street. The Milwaukee County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the victims as Michelle D. Williams, 49; Donta H. Williams, 44; Donald Smith, 43; Charles L. Hardy, 42; Javoni Liddell, 31; and Caleb A. Jordan, 23, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

On Thursday, Norman said investigators believe multiple people involved in the shooting remained at large, although he said officials do not believe they pose a risk to the public.

“This was … what we understand to be (a) targeted (shooting),” the chief said. “This is not something where we are saying, ‘This is a random act.’”

The motive behind the shooting remained unclear Thursday, although Norman said investigators do not believe it was a murder-suicide.

“We are still dealing with the active investigation,” he said. “We are still looking for other individuals to basically shed more light into this situation.”

Mayor Cavalier Johnson on Thursday urged people to come forward with any information they might have to help investigators.

“Everybody, every single one of us, every person in the City of Milwaukee, is responsible and has a part in public safety,” he said. “In this case I’m certain that there’s somebody out there – somebody, somebody who knows something, who’s seen something, who can say something to help us in this issue where there was a mass shooting and six people in our city were left dead. It’s time for that person to step forward, to come up, to say something.”

Police continue to investigate.
